Statistics Canada says retail gross sales down 0.1 per cent at $66.1 billion in August Specific Instances

Statistics Canada says retail gross sales fell 0.1 per cent to $66.1 billion in August as gross sales at new and used automotive sellers fell for the month.


The company additionally says its early estimates recommend retail gross sales had been unchanged in September, although it cautioned the studying could be revised.


For August, gross sales at motorized vehicle and elements sellers fell 0.9 per cent as gross sales at new automotive sellers dropped 1.1 per cent and used automotive sellers declined 0.5 per cent.


Statistics Canada says core retail gross sales — which exclude gasoline stations and gasoline distributors and motorized vehicle and elements sellers — fell 0.3 per cent in August.


Gross sales at meals and beverage retailers fell 1.2 per cent, whereas gross sales at sporting items, interest, musical instrument, ebook and miscellaneous retailers dropped 1.1 per cent.


In quantity phrases, general retail gross sales fell 0.7 per cent in August.
