Following information that Microsoft laid off 1,900 staffers from its video games division, the Communications Staff of America (CWA) mentioned that the transfer has not impacted any of the staffers it represents.

The CWA represents some staff from Microsoft divisions, together with ZeniMax Studios and Activision Blizzard.

Senior QA tester and member of ZeniMax Staff United-CWA Wayne Dayberry mentioned, “Layoffs within the online game business have gotten the norm, even at corporations that proceed to ship large earnings. It hurts to see our coworkers, who’re so enthusiastic about this work, who really make these online game corporations so profitable, be the primary impacted by any cuts or layoffs at work.”

“…Union illustration cannot all the time shield towards layoffs, however by way of union illustration and the bargaining course of, online game employees can set up higher transparency and insurance policies that put our wants first, together with layoff protections.

They added, “That is why we wish each online game employee to affix our union. Collectively, we’ve the ability to set new requirements for our business in order that we will do the work we’re enthusiastic about protected from exploitation.”

Again in 2023, Microsoft confirmed that it might honor its labor neutrality settlement with the CWA following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
