The Tony Award-winning Broadway actress, singer, and dancer Chita Rivera handed away on Tuesday on the age of 91.
“It’s with immense private sorrow that I announce the loss of life of the beloved Broadway icon Chita Rivera. My pricey pal of over 40 years was 91,” her rep Merle Frimark stated in a press release on Tuesday, per Individuals.
Lisa Mordente, Rivera’s daughter, stated in a press release that her mom handed away in New York “after a short sickness.”
“She can be survived by her siblings Julio, Armando and Lola del Rivero, (her older sister Carmen predeceased her), alongside along with her many nieces, nephews and mates,” the assertion added.
A memorial occasion for Rivera will “be introduced sooner or later,” in line with the household, however his funeral will “be non-public.”
Any donations in her honour needs to be donated to Broadway Cares/Fairness Fights AIDS, per their request.
When Rivera performed Anita in West Aspect Story in 1957, her profession took off.
She then performed the character within the Broadway variations of Bajour and Bye Bye Birdie, which earned her her first Tony nomination.
As well as, she acted within the stage performances of Kiss Me Kate, Born Yesterday, Threepenny Opera, and The Rose Tattoo.
